Planning Guide
| Step 1 - Purpose |
How long do you want your video?
As a rough guide:
75 photos: 5-10 minutes
100 photos: 10-15 minutes
150 photos: 15-30 minutes
300 photos: 30-45 minutes
If you include video with your photos, the times will be longer.
Will the photos cover the entire life a person or a particular period in their life?
Will you include video clips? How long will they be?
How will you sequence your photos?
There are different ways to sequence or order your photos. The most common way is chronologically with baby pictures first, then childhood, high school, etc. For wedding reception videos, they might be sequenced showing photos of the bride' growing up, then the groom growing up, then photos of both the bride and groom together. Or you might intertwine the bride and groom growing up.
If you are having a difficult time coming up with something creative, let us help - there is a 1 hour consultation session included in all of our packages..

Step 2 - Select and Organize Photos |
If you are scanning photos:
• Scan each photo at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi
• Save them in a JPG file format
• Number them with a 3-digit sequence number (001.jpg, 002.jpg, etc) in the order they will appear in the video
• If there are special instructions for a photo (i.e., cropping out a person), refer to each photo by number and list details
• If you are mailing them via postal service, you can burn them to a CD or copy them to a memory stick and mail it. You can also upload them on the site using the Upload Form or send in email to us (10MB limit per email)
If you have digital photos:
• Copy them to a new folder on your computer
• Re-name each photo with a 3-digit sequence number (001.jpg, 002.jpg, etc) in the order they will appear in the video
If you are shipping actual photos:
• Number each photo with a sticky note on the back-side of the photo (not the front-side).
• If there are special instructions for a photo (i.e., cropping out a person), provide specific details on each sticky note
• Place all of the photos inside of a Zip-lock bag

Step 3 - Select Videos and Other Material |
This can include audio clips, videos, diplomas and awards, brochures, etc. We prefer the digital video clips on CD or DVD in MPEG, WMV, AVI, or MOV digital media formats. We can also convert video tape. Please protect all of your scannable materials with Zip-lock bags when mailing.
|
Step 4 - Select Songs |
Songs are an integral part of your video and will help set the mood for the video. Select your songs and select the order in which they should appear. You can use an entire song or parts of a song.
We prefer songs on CD or in MP3 format. If you require assistance in selecting the right songs for your video, we will be happy to assist you. |
Step 5 - Title Pages and Captions |
The addition of title pages and captions in your video makes it more entertaining and helps the audience follow along with the story being told. Title pages are typically used at the beginning and end of the video and may also be used to separate different sections of the video. Title pages can have a photo/image in the background or may be text. Captions are text that appear on the screen to provide descriptions, people's names, or other information about a photo. They can also be quotations, poems, slogans, etc.
Please provide the exact text and background image/color for each title page, the exact text of each caption, and the sequence where they should appear in your video.
